For over a thousand years, the 108 Secret Questions have been a traditional Tibetan method for discovering great truths. It is the question itself that can reveal great truths, not the answer. For it is not the answer that we do not know; the answer is always there, waiting. Once we have the correct question we will always find the correct answer. But without the right question, the right answer can never be found.
The Nangten Menlang Organization offers a scholarship for an International Retreat in 2011 for the best answer to a question chosen by Tulku Lobsang from the book 108 Questions From the Secret Wisdom of Tibet. Answers will be accepted until December 15th, 2010 and Tulku Lobsang will announce the best answer one week later, on December 23rd, 2010. Here is the question that Tulku Lobsang has chosen:
Question:
"Which is the bigger mistake, to make a mistake or to not want to make a mistake?"
The Nangten Menlang Organization wishes you good luck!
Please give your answer here:
All the answers must be written in English.

The bigger mistake is not to want to make a mistake. Not to want is also to want something and is in that way attachement and cause of problems. Also, not to want to make a mistake is driven by fear to make one and therefor this is the bigger mistake.(if fear becomes your master you don't act out of freedom and you are no longer your own master, you become a "slave").
In addition to all this you can also say that a mistake is subjective, so what can be a mistake for me is not necesserally one for you. In that point of view this is merely a mental concept created by human beings and their society. (thus depending on your culture and surrondings) |

Tayatha om Bekandze
Beckandze Maha Bekandze
Randze Samu Gate Soha
I feel this question is very intricate and we must also look at what a mistake is, is it an intentional ingnorance against truth or is it a humble stumble on the road towards self awareness and valuable lessons?
To me this question is like a doubled edged sword in the sense that,it can be interpreted by perception.
If we come to this life for a specific purpose, some may have to take the road of making mistakes which in turn bless them with wisdom and knowlwedge and a better understanding of one's self. e.g. The mistake is made, either it is repeated, or it is an awakening or an awareness to a truth and a path to a solution and better understanding or our actions and energy and resolve etc.
It is of great intention to not to want to make a mistake and be the best, but is this really reality, or even a fair testament to being human, seeking, enlightenment.
Meaning, if we did not make mistakes there would be no purpose for learning for we would know it all. In trying to avoid what we fear, attracts fear, so in not wanting to make a mistake, can actually attract a mistake.
Life is a contiuum of learning, and sometimes mistakes are great blessings in disguise giving us a better path towards selflessness, humility, grace, understanding, wisdom and knowledge, truth, love etc this also allows us to ask and receive forgivenesd and understand the struggles of our brothers and sisters who to make mistakes. Tolerane. Life is intricate, just as in getting lost, there are many endless roads but once you find your way, you won't get lost again as you know the path, where to go and where not to go etc. When we make mistakes, we pave a path of what not to do and what to do, and this insight is invaluable, upon our journey towards enlightenment, mistakes are a vehicle which can take us to the next step so to speak.
Yet in not wanting to make a mistake, can also bring on a mistake in the sense that one will may carry fear and doubt of their abilities etc. yet it can also be seen as a true intention of acknowledging the awareness and integrity or our actions.
If feel both can be just as worse as the other, it is what we do with them, that makes a difference.
To give power to fear, and negative thought,is the bigger mistake, as most would not intentionally make a mistake for the sake of making a mistake, mistakes are made through lack of knowledge, wrong perception, fear, doubt etc. For some when we have, wisdom and understanding we can evaluate the road ahead and thus avoid mistakes, thus we must open our heart to the way through, faith, humility, trust, love and an open heart etc.
These are some of my reflections on the above question.
Blessings, Love, light and Oneness

There is no mistake, is illusion.
The judgement of having done a mistake is illusion of mind.
The decision of wanting to make no
mistake is illusion of mind. |

| If you don't want to make a mistake, you are not free and you don't give a chance to life to teach you. Mistakes are part of the natural learning process and to avoid them is refusing to open to life. Mistakes are never the problem as long as you have a good intention. In that case, mistakes are always your teacher. |

We are all humans, therefore wee all make mistakes, sometimes more, sometimes less. We have to accept this from us and from others. The important thing is to learn from mistakes and maybe next time not make the same mistake again... maybe make another, a different mistake.
If you do not want to make amistake, you are hestitant, you stop trying anything, you avoid doing or saying anything. You even avoid moving on in your learning.
Making a mistake, that you know that is a mistake, is the biggest mistake. |

Three Golden Rules:
1. Please, do make mistakes. Don't be afraid.
2. Please, do not repeat those mistakes over and over with no end. Wake up!
3. Please, don't be too exited, and sometimes, let the others walk in their own shoes, too.
The bigger mistake is to not want to make a mistake. |

To make a mistake is the bigger mistake. Why? Because to make a mistake is a mistake, but to don’t want to make a mistake can be a mistake or not.
For example; you need to wake up very early to take a plane but you don’t do it and you lose the plane. That’s a mistake, you can learn about that experience but the plane is already missed, you’ve lost the money and the travel that you were going to do.
To don’t want to make a mistake is the base of the spiritual path. It’s because we don’t want to waste our human life, we don’t want to mistake our life, that we look for wisdom and enlightment. Without that “intelligent fear” (don’t want to make a mistake) our life will be a total mistake. |

The bigger mistake is: to make a mistake.
Because with a mistake or with a wrong act we make a wrong thought. With a wrong thought we make a wrong energyfield and that energyfield influence the whole total energiefield, what is not at the same time an energyfield, but an energyfield that is in potential there. |

| The bigger mistake is to not want to make a mistake, because anytime I don't want something, I must thing about it, sending the vibration of that think to my mind, and it (the mind) doesn't know what "I" want or not want, this duality comes from Ego, so my mind gives me what I focus. So I receive what "I" don't want and that will make unhappy. |

| I am not budist but yes philobudist what I mean is sorry if I am wrong but I would like to know the truth of the answer but probably there are so many answers and truths. I think that the bigger mistake is not to whant to make a mistake because the ego is there and it doesnt matter if its right or not maybe could help another. So to make a mistake is human and not to whant is just ego. Maybe I am wrong or not whatever just the master knows the complete truth i am just guessing just a little bit of what i thing is the correct answer but it does not mean the other is wrong. Thanks in advance with lots of love from a catholic woman who loves budism and likes to hear or read about it and other philosophies. |

I´m so ignorant that I can only make mistakes. I don´t see so I don´t choose, I walk. I fall down... again.
Doing a wrong movement is painful but the tension of not moving creates much more suffering.
You stand up ,again, and you flow... that´s all about.
Now I don´t search the wright path, I try to follow the path of the heart, does this means it is better to make a mistake? |

| When judging the greatness or size of s mistake we have to look at the risk taken. When wanting to not make a mistake the risk is very low. Of course one could say this is the greater mistake. At first glance, yes. When looked at deeper we see that failing to act cannot really be celebrated as a mistake at all. Would we celebrate if someone is sleep walking through life? You have to show up to the playing field to truly start making mistakes. When actually putting ourselves in harms way to make a mistake the risk is high. Therefor the act of making the mistake is the bigger mistake and is cherished beyond measure! |

I have made mistakes in my life and I have no regrets about them. When I have made a mistake in my work, or personal life I am abel to look at them as if I were looking into a mirror and once I see my true reflection I then can see the truth in my mistake and learn why I have made this mistake. So when the same situation arises, I then look into my soul and I am able to make the right choices. I think that mistakes is the universes way in helping us to get to the next level of our lives.
Thank you. |

Not wanting to make a mistake keeps you in a state of "want". In this state, forward motion becomes limiting, vision diminished and the end result out of reach.
Mis-take (big or small)is simply a mis-step in your journey. These mis-steps are opportunities to learn. The learning opens doors to greater successes. Embrace the mis-take as a opportunity to do it right. |

| To me, the bigger mistake would be not to want to make a mistake. This puts one in a position where they seek perfection, and perfection is impossible for most human beings. Therefore, you set yourself up to fail. "To err is human" it has been said. One is bound to make mistakes and this is how we learn. |

| The word "bigger" is a relative concept just as the word "mistake" is. There aren't really any mistakes. On a relative level, from every action comes results which can be viewed as good or bad depending on perspective. As soon as the thought arises that there is the possibility of making a mistake then there is already fear and ignorance. There is ultimately no one to make a mistake and no object that should fear doing so. |

Not wanting to make a mistake is a product of our negative ego.. Pride, fear whatever the circumstances that lead to this not wanting.
If one operates from an open heart full of love one embraces all of life's lessons that are according to the will of whatever one's belief is .the Source, Elohim, Buddha, Christ , Brahma.
If one operates from the perspective of moving according to teh will of God then all that he or she does will be in accordance with the the Divine Maker's Will and therefore he/ she would not fear or not want to make a mistake because all that occurs in his or her life is according to Divine Plan and therefore there are no mistakes just lessons. Through each lesson in life, if embraced with an open heart all will flow according to the Divine plan and with each challenge he/ she reaches a higher level of consciousness and enlightenment and ascension.

how do you measure a mistake,
i don't want to make any mistakes,
this is good intention, and a good intention is only a mistake if its a mistaken intention. maybe i have made some spelling mistakes above. I dont want to make spelling mistakes but spelling isnt my strong point. you could say that its a mistake to be pushed a pulled around so much by hope and fear, then maybe you could relax a little more. |

It is human to make a mistake. One should leanr from it, and from other's mistakes. One should not consider itself perfect. Perfection is just in the eye of the follower.
To not want to make a mistake is to condamn yourself to a continuous struggle to reach perfection. An unneccesary battle with yourself. A struggle which would bring you a great deal of stress and pressure.
One should allow itself several tries until it reaches the given goal. Having too high expectations from itself could result in falling from high up and get really hurt. Small steps also bring one further. Not as fast as, maybe, expected, but certain. Small steps, wise steps.
If it is to choose between the two statements, the bigger mistake is to not want to make a mistake. Would become a robot. |
